Artist Statement

I love patterns. I’ve been drawn to them my whole life. As a child, I loved fabric stores and their aisles and aisles of colors and patterns. As an art college student I learned to restore oriental carpets in a Persian rug shop, deepening my love for their patterns. My understanding and appreciation grew to encompass a broader concept of pattern that includes visual patterns as well as structural, physical, musical, and historical patterns.
My interest in patterns is evident in my work. In pots made for daily use I am inclined to pattern the surface with imagery and designs based on elements in my environment. These include flowers and plants that thrive in New England as well as patterns in the carpets I have on my floor.

A Bit About Me

I learned to throw pots at Wesleyan Potters in Middletown, Connecticut, my home town, when I was in high school.  Fast forward about 35 years through a richly varied and lively period.  At long last, I wound my way back to clay. After moving with my husband to Manchester, New Hampshire, I began taking community education ceramics classes at The New Hampshire Institute of Art. Eventually, I enrolled in their Master of Art in Art Education degree program with a studio focus in ceramics. I'm happy to say I was a member of the first cohort to graduate from this program in July 2015! That same July, my husband and I moved to Hillsborough, New Hampshire.  We bought a lovely 1842 home with an attached barn where we could have our studios. In 2018 we renovated both levels of the barn, including all new electrical wiring, large windows providing a view from my potters wheel of our magical backyard, and skylights that fill the upper level with light!  I can be found most days, enjoying life in my studio!
